CEN Side Event on Guidelines for Animal Trial Protocols
A side event of the 6th Central European Network Conference (CEN 2026) in Warsaw, Poland will take place to discuss the implementation of guidelines for animal trial protocols. Current proposals for such guidelines include the PREPARE checklist and the ARRIVE study plan. Such tools and checklists are useful resources to ensure transparent communication of planned in vivo studies and to increase the reproducibility of pre-clinical research. However, the overall number of (pre-registered) animal trial protocols is still low, illustrating the need for pushing the preregistration agenda among pre-clinical researchers and policymakers. In this side event we will discuss possible ways forward for successful implementation and increased adherence to guidelines for animal trial protocols.
The Side Event is organized by Florian Frommlet (Medical University of Vienna), Leonhard Held (University of Zurich) and Uli Dirnagl (QUEST Center at Charité, Berlin) and is co-sponsored by the Center for Reproducible Science and Research Synthesis (CRS) of the University of Zurich. It will take place on Wednesday 20. May 2026 in the lunch break (12:00 – 14:00) in a room yet to be announced.
