Registration open: UZH Research Synthesis Half-Day

We invite registrations and contributions for the UZH Research Synthesis Half-Day, on December 12, 2025 at the University of Zurich city campus.

The goal of the UZH Research Synthesis Half-Day is to bring together the “who-is-who” in research synthesis at UZH: to understand who is doing what, identify gaps and needs, learn from each other, and begin planning future activities centered around research synthesis, at the CRS and UZH. The event aims to foster interdisciplinary exchange and collaborations across faculties.

What do we mean by “Research Synthesis”?

Research synthesis is the scientific process of systematically evaluating and integrating evidence from multiple sources to answer specific research questions. Traditionally associated with systematic reviews and meta-analyses, research synthesis has expanded to include a wider range of methodologies, such as network meta-analyses, individual participant data meta-analysis, federated learning, living reviews, qualitative and mixed-methods synthesis, and other approaches that combine diverse data types, research designs, and analytical methods. Research synthesis aims to draw comprehensive and reliable conclusions by aggregating and critically appraising existing evidence. It also identifies gaps, uncertainties, and opportunities for future research. Research synthesis plays a vital role across disciplines: from informing patient care and public health policy in medicine, to guiding education reform, environmental policies, social interventions, and technological innovation.

Event Format

The UZH Research Synthesis Half-Day will create a space for direct exchange among UZH researchers involved in or interested in research synthesis. We are planning  for short, focused contributions, where participants briefly address the question “Where, why and how are they using research synthesis in their work?”. Such contributions will be combined with time for discussion, brainstorming and break-out sessions to develop strategies for collaboration and training, and plan future UZH activities in the area of research synthesis.

Registration and Submission of Contributions

Join us for an inspiring afternoon among novice and expert research synthesisers. We welcome those who simply want to attend, listen, brainstorm and connect and those who want to actively contribute to the program. Please register via this form to sign up and/or submit a contribution. We accept both short talks (8 minutes) and suggestions for discussion topics, either for the full group or break-out sessions. Contributions can be submitted until October 1st. We accept registrations until November 1st.

  • For short talks we ask for a title and an abstract (up to 200 words)
  • For discussion topics we ask for a title and an answer to the questions “Why this topic?”,  “Why UZH?” and “How would you ideally want to structure the discussion?”. Please also tell us whether you want to moderate the discussion or not. Please keep the answers below 150 words.

Note that this event is for researchers affiliated with the University of Zurich only.
